Meet the Artist!

Kat Pendleton is a multimedia artist who currently resides in Muncie Indiana. They grew up in Southwest Ohio and has recently returned after the completion of their Bachelors in Fine Arts as a major in glass in the spring of 2024 at Ball State University. Their primary mediums are glass and ceramics but they can also be found painting and drawing traditionally and digitally. Their “jack of all trades” mentality about practicing so many different forms of art stems from their goal to create functional and whimsical artwork that is accessible to a wide variety of people in hopes that anyone could find something that they might be able to connect with. Much of their work is inspired by their interest in escapism, fantasy and creating narratives.

What is “Artist Pend?”

As an artist I feel that it is important to have a way for people to recognize you and your work. Growing up as someone with a very common first name, I have never felt a true connection to it. I would get called on in class and six other people with the same name would answer. When I moved to college, I started going by a different name but I still had the same problem wherever I went. Because of this I began to sign my work with my initials [KEP] or simply with my last name [Pendleton]. The moniker “Pend” comes from my last name as that is the one name that I have always been able to associate with myself. Additionally, I enjoy how it can be seen as a play on “pen” or “penned” as I like to believe that I have a sense of humor. The addition of the word “artist” acts as a reminder to myself that not matter how much I struggle figuring out who I am supposed to be, I am and will always be an artist.
